Equipment to the Telephone Network |

 |
| ACTA Adopted: |
May 6, 2008 |
The Administrative Council for Terminal Attachment
("ACTA") adopted the following technical criteria for Telephone
Terminal Equipment ("TTE"). Equipment approved for connection to
the public switched telephone network shall comply with all applicable rules
and regulations of Part 68, and with the applicable technical criteria
adopted by ACTA:
TIA-968-A:
Telecommunications -- Telephone Terminal Equipment -- Technical Requirements
for Connection of Terminal Equipment to the Telephone Network (Upgrade and
Revision of TIA/EIA/IS-968)
TIA/EIA/IS-968: Technical
Criteria for Terminal Equipment to Prevent Harms to the Telephone Network,
July 2001.
TIA/EIA/IS-883:
Telecommunications - Telephone Terminal Equipment - Supplemental Technical
Requirements for Connection of Stutter Dial Tone Detection Devices and ADSL
Modems to the Telephone Network, June 2001.
TIA/EIA/TSB-168:
Telecommunications - Telephone Terminal Equipment - Labeling Requirements,
June 2001.
- The Federal Communication Commission regulates the attachment of telecommunications
Terminal equipment to the telephone network. The FCC requires Registration of
Terminal Equipment directly connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network
(PSTN). The
purpose of this requirement is to protect the telephone network and repair personnel. The
functionality of the equipment under test is of minimum concern.
FCC Part 68 Continuing Compliance Program:
As part of the Part 68
original application a manufacturer is required to adhere to a quality control program.
Part of the requirement is production sample testing every six months (if the unit is
still in production). We will notify our clients when the product is due for testing.
- Canada - Industry Canada CS-03
Industry Canada regulates the connection
of telecommunications terminal equipment to the PSTN. Industry Canada requires
Certification of equipment directly connected to the PSTN. Testing must be performed by
Industry Canada Approved test lab. Global Testing is an Industry Canada Approved
test lab.
- Japan - Japan Approvals Institute for Telecommunications Equipment (JATE)
JATE grants compliance approval for
Terminal Equipment in a fair and neutral manner as the sole agency designated for that
purpose by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications. Terminals granted approval can be
connected to the Public Network without inspection of a telecommunications carrier such as
NTT. Connection requests should be made to the Telecommunications carriers, but carriers
do not have right to refuse such connection. Global Testing's overseas network is
able to receive faster approvals for the JATE (3-4 weeks testing & approval).
- Europe -
ETSI ES 203 021 (TBR21)
- The Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (TTE) directive establishes the requirements
which TTE must meet before being marketed in the European Community (EC). 'Attachment
requirements for pan-European approval for connection to the analogue Public Switched
Telephone Networks (PSTN) of TE (excluding TE supporting the voice telephony service) in
which network addressing, if provided, is by means of Dual Tone Multi Frequency
(DTMF) signalling' is ETSI ETSI ES 203 021. Manufacturer or applicants for approval of TE
must be aware of the Advisory Notes contained in ETSI Guide EG 201 121, including any
amendment thereto.
Australia - Australian Standards
AS/NZS 3260: Safety
of Information Technology Equipment Including Electrical Business Equipment.
AS/ACIF
S001: Safety Requirements for Customer Equipment.
AS/ACIF S002:
Analogue interworking and non-interference requirements for Customer Equipment for
